The Nutrisystem Diet has you choose a months worth of food online among its vast selection of delicious diet meals online. Once you have done so, the meals will be delivered to your doorstep in ready-to-cook bags. All you have to do is to pop them in the stove or microwave and you will have your meal in a flash. So who is the genius that came up with this system? Well, a Horsham, Pennsylvania-based company called NutriSystem, Inc. is actually responsible. Founded in 1972, NutriSystem, Inc. started out by developing a liquid protein diet program. After a barrage of similar products hit the market, NutriSystem, Inc. decided to stop the program and develop something else. They did a lot of trial and error before they decided to open up a chain of weight loss centers wherein the customers would come in, be weighed in and then prescribed pre-packaged portion-controlled meals to bring home.
Incidentally, the company went bankrupt in the early 1990s. However, in 1999 they restarted the company and reinvented themselves as an online meal delivery service.This proved to be a great plan because they soon developed the innovative diet program called the NutriSystem Diet. In the early 2000s, the company expanded so that the customers could order their meals by monthly assortements not only online but over the phone as well.
NutriSystem Inc.s next brainchild was to extend their key demographics to include male and older customers. This caused the program to boom, as it acquired more customers. In the year 2008, NutriSystem Inc. renamed the program to NutriSystem Advanced. They then created a partnership with the popular television-marketing program that airs its 90-minute infomercials, QVC.
The company's president was once quoted as saying that they would not use celebrities as endorsers since a weight gain in the celebrity's part would be detrimental to the company. However, they changed their mind in the last couple of years. They have the successful testimonials of celebrities such as Dan Marino, Marie Osmond, Tony Orlando and the latest, Belinda Carlisle.
